Over the past few years, many Baker City residents have seen their pharmacy options disappear. When Safeway and Rite Aid closed within weeks of each other, the city was left with only one pharmacy location. For many families, that meant longer waits, limited options, and greater reliance on mail-order services or large chains.
Situations like this are increasingly common in rural communities and are often described as “pharmacy deserts.” But Baker City Pharmacy was created to help restore local access to pharmacy care.
A response to a community need
The team behind Baker City Pharmacy has served Eastern Oregon patients for many years through Red Cross Drug Store in nearby La Grande. As pharmacy closures began affecting Baker City, more and more Baker County residents started relying on that pharmacy for help—often receiving prescriptions by mail when local options became limited.
Opening a pharmacy in Baker City became the natural next step: bringing reliable pharmacy care closer to home for the people who live here.
