“Life Can Only Be Understood Backwards; But It Must Be Lived Forwards” – Soren Kierkegaard
Sometimes the day can bring an unexpected moment of clarity that helps life to make sense. That happened to me today, and I want to share it with you.
I had the opportunity to sit in on a presentation presented by Dr. Nelson’s daughter, Natalie today. I had an “Aha Moment.” She was talking about people and whether they live in the past, the present, or the future. I wasn’t sure where this was going to go so I leaned in a little closer to listen to this webinar.
We know we live in a world that is full of negative happenings – just turn on the news for 5 minutes and you are bombarded with all of the troubles of the day. But, we can also look around and we see the good too. I mean, tulips are coming up in my garden and it’s still February. Yay, spring is on the way.
Our goal in working with Emotion Code and Body Code healing is to have a largely positive vibration around us. We work to release and eliminate the negative vibration. But life can still feel like we are wading upstream all of the time, can’t it?
Picture yourself in that stream with the current. You have to move forward or the pressure of the moving water will pull the ground right out from under you. Life is that way too. We have to keep moving forward so that we aren’t pulled down.
So how do we keep moving forward?
The first thing to do is to determine how you live your life. For me, I realized while listening to Natalie that I used to be a person who always lived in the future. That was the “Aha Moment.” More about that in a minute.
If you are person who lives in the present, you are the luckiest! You experience each day by feeling these types of emotions: Curiosity, Acceptance, Peace, Compassion, Gratitude, Determination, Love and Joy.
When living in the present, you are doing just that – experiencing what is happening right now. Now, when living in the present, you must always keep an eye on the future. Natalie explained it like this: Imagine you are watching a tennis player play a game. She is in the moment playing, but to strike the ball, she has her eye on it and on the racket so she can hit the ball when it gets to her. That’s living in the moment, but having an eye on the future.
You need to direct your life in healthy ways to keep moving up that stream. You need to have goals about the future, and it’s okay to take little steps to reach the big goal. Just keep moving forward.
Now, if you are a person who lives in the past, you might experience these types of feelings: Guilt, Shame, Sorrow, Longing, Failure, Rejection, Resentment, or Betrayal to name a few. You must release the bad energy– let it go- and ONLY THEN will there be enough room to allow the good energy in.
I love the quote by Soren Kierkegaard, “Life can only be understood backward, but it must be lived forwards.” Isn’t that great?!
I mentioned I was someone who used to live in the future. I was always worried about my retirement, how I was going to pay for my children’s college, and I am insured to the hilt in case something bad happens – I will be ready. Well, emotions that are felt by those of us who live (or have lived) life in the future include: Fear, Vulnerability, Doubt, Anxiety, Lack of Control, Discouragement, Helplessness and Hopelessness. This is, and was not, a fun way to live. And, there is little we can do about the future anyway.
Emotions that are tied to living in the past or the future are all about resistance to living in the present.
Self-sabotage is subconsciously formed as a result of this resistance. This self-sabotage keeps you chained where you don’t want to be. You might literally feel like you can’t move forward. Emotion Code work can’t change the past, but I believe it can alter your PERCEPTION of the past. This helps us move to acceptance of our past and to live in peace with it.
Emotion Code can also help someone like me have an eye on the future, but to truly live in the present. Again this is done by releasing the negative energy in us and allowing the positive vibration to come to us. This takes work, and it requires a balanced life to achieve.
We must learn to be at peace with the past, live in the present, but have an eye on the future. Wow, what a great goal to work towards . . .one step at a time.
Becoming an Emotion Code/Body Code practitioner has helped me to live and experience the present. I am free from the worry and anxiety I had about what the future might bring. Thank you, Natalie, for my “Aha Moment.”
I love this quote, I never thought of life in these terms, but it is so true. Looking back at the life decision I see so much clearer now that I didn’t see then. And yet I am moving forward hoping that I am seeing the right choices to make for the future
